The state of Georgia has been leading in creating on the job training programs that benefit unemployed individuals in the state. Free job programs are provided to job seekers while they collect the allowed unemployment benefits. Georgia Work$ is a program established to help create new jobs and Georgia Work Ready is a program that certifies employees in specific real life job skills. In addition to certifications, Work Ready provides free training to improve needed skills for the job marketplace.

Georgia Work Ready - Jobs Training Program

The Work Ready program has been created to assess and certify job seekers in specific skills. Skill levels in math, reading and work habits are determined through testing. Training is provided to persons needing to improve their test scores. Once a job placement participant has been certified he can apply for jobs and present the certificate to show readiness. Jobs are available through employers who have chosen to participate in the Work Ready program. The website Georgia Work Ready.org maintains information on certification and free preparation materials for taking the test.

Georgia Work Ready - Certifications

Work Ready certificates are issued in accordance with the test score received in all three areas tested. There are four possible certifications through the Work Ready program in Georgia. Bronze is given when the lowest passing score is received and platinum is issued to the highest passing score. The higher the passing score the higher the number of jobs available to the job seeker.

  • Bronze – this certificate is issued to participants receiving a passing score of 3 in all test parts.
  • Silver – certificate is given to job seekers with a score of 4 in all areas
  • Gold – issued to participants with a passing score of 5
  • Platinum – for participants with a 6 score in all three areas. This certification attests that a person is ready for 95% of the jobs in the state of Georgia.

Georgia Work$- on the Job Training Programs for the Unemployed

Georgia Work$ is a program sponsored by Georgia Department of Labor to aid job seekers and employers. To participate in this on the job training program a person has to register with the Georgia Unemployment Department for placement services. Job seekers are matched with potential employers who provide on the job training. The Department of Labor claims that 63% of Georgia Work$ trainees actually found jobs.

  • Unemployed job seekers are given up to $600 for training expenses.
  • The program runs for six weeks at 24 hours per work week.
  • There is no cost to the employer and to the potential employee.
  • Commercial and non profit organizations are eligible to participate in this work program.
